Is it time to change the way we layoff teachers? We don’t want to layoff anyone. But with budget shortfalls looming, cuts will inevitably be made. It would be great if senior teachers close to retirement could be given an incentive to leave a little early. If you started with offering a small percentage — you don’t want to lose all your senior staff and you don’t want to lose all the freshman class either.
Somehow, the union and school administrators have to come together and get creative. Come up with something that is doable — our future is worth it.
Connecticut board of education should look out for Hartford students, not teacher union – Courant.com.

Great post on a difficult issue. Creative thinking certainly will go a long way to reconcile with a very difficult problem.
